Ford tasked us with a challenging mission - transform the Mustang, already a darling of the performance car market, into a competitive A/FX drag racer. My father, John Holman, and Ralph Moody, the co-founders of our company, took this challenge head-on with the tenacity and commitment to innovation that had already made Holman & Moody a dominant force in motorsport.
We embarked on a comprehensive modification process to create a Mustang like no other.
 
Our focus was on shifting the car's weight balance to improve traction – a crucial advantage in drag racing. We achieved this by relocating the engine and transmission towards the rear, repositioning the fuel tank, and adjusting the suspension. Under the hood, the Mustang's beating heart was a highly-tuned version of Ford's robust 427 cubic inch V8, kitted out with top-of-the-line performance parts.
 
The result was nothing short of spectacular. Our A/FX Mustangs appeared mostly stock but roared like the true drag racing beasts they were. On the drag strips of America in 1965, these cars were among the fastest and most formidable contenders, playing a key role in cementing Ford's performance reputation.
